

Margaret Anne (Barnes) Greenwood, Vinson Hall Retirement Community, McLean, VA was born on June 7, 1927 in Cleveland, OH. She was the oldest daughter of Samuel A. Barnes and Katherine (Dory) Barnes of Warren, OH. In 1945 she graduated from the Villa Maria H.S. in the Erie, PA Diocese and Allegheny College in '49. She married 2ndLt John E. Greenwood USMC on June 7, 1950. She moved her family 16 times in the course of her husband's Marine career. She is survived by her five sons: John Eric (Mary Jane), Thomas Clay (Bettye), Paul Edson (Lisa), Alan Morgan (Ellen) and Daniel Quentin (Kim); 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Forrester, of Warren, OH and numerous nieces and nephews throughout OH.
She served as both mother and father three times for the duration of one year periods while her husband served overseas in military conflicts. She volunteered as the first librarian at the St. Francis of Assisi School in Quantico, VA and also as one of the founders of the Marine Corps gift shop at the Marine Historical Center. She won numerous blue ribbons at the annual Manassas County Fair for her baking. She was a prolific knitter and active enthusiast of needlepoint and cross stitch. She was a most loving lady completely devoted to her husband, sons and church.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 14th.
Interment will be private at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery.
