I was so saddened to hear of "Cousin" Grace's passing, although I know she suffered for some time. Memories of Grace go back years to family reunions in the Poconos at my Aunt Bernie's house or one of the nearby lakes. I always admired Grace for her sharp wit, keen intelligence, and honest and varied ambition. She shared a passion for Human Factors/Ergonomics which my own father, Harry Davis, held. I recall them discussing its societal impact in great detail.

Most of all, I admired Grace and husband Ed's deep commitment to each other, clear camaraderie, and lively presence. They were so much fun! They flew to Chicago for my wedding (Rick Cappelletti), and famously were delayed at O'Hare Airport with other family for eight hours during the "flood of the century." But love and organization persevered, and everyone arrived in time to celebrate family, love, and Chicago (the storm passed, the weather cleared, the parties began).

I know my Aunt Bernie was very close to Grace, as was my mother, Eleanor, both frequently reminiscing with nostalgic and humorous stories of the three of them playing pranks on each other--much to the chagrin of my stern but loving grandmother, Helen Uhle.

While I have not seen Grace in many years, her presence resonates. Please accept our deepest condolences; may Grace Hardiman's wonderful spirit live on through her family.

Our deepest condolences to all of the Hardiman family. Your mom's accomplishments are truly amazing. I always enjoyed visiting with her at family gatherings and only wish I had known even half of her talents and achievements so I could have asked her more about them - she had a full and interesting life.

Aunt Grace had a pretty amazing life considering the era that she was born into. I can only imagine what doors she would have flung open with her education and drive had she been born in a time more open to a woman (and a Mom) in the sciences and business.

I hope fond memories of your Mom bring you comfort and that the support and love of your family and friends help you through your grief and loss. It's one more sadness that 2020 has piled onto all of us.

With love, Claire
