Myna Thai-Lok

May 8, 1958February 25, 2021

Myna Thai-Lok passed away on February 25, 2021 at her home in Arlington, Virginia at the age of 62, following a battle with breast cancer. Survivors include her father: Choung Thai of Arlington, Virginia; ex-husband: Ming Tak Lok of Alexandria, Virginia; three children: Victor Lok of Herndon, Virginia, Albert Lok of Falls Church, Virginia and Tiffany Davis (formerly Lok) of Alexandria, Virginia; two grandchildren; ten sisters and brothers and a host of other devoted relatives and friends.

Born on May 8, 1958, Myna was raised in Vietnam and spent her adult life in the Northern Virginia Area after immigrating to the United States in 1979. She was the fourth child of Choung Thai and the late Khe Dao. Myna was a dedicated public servant, having spent 30+ years working for the Arlington County Public School System. Myna was the loving matriarch of her family. She was fiercely independent and opinionated, while also compassionate and charming. She always put others first. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who referred to her as their nai nai, and shopping with her many sisters.

Though we have a huge void in our hearts and will miss her terribly, Myna’s family and loved ones feel so fortunate to have been able to spend 62 years together. Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren; and her memory will last forever. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Capital Caring and Kaiser Permanente for the care shown to Myna over the past few months.

Her family and friends meant the world to her and we look forward to celebrating her life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in her name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation @ (If you wish the family to be notified of a donation it can be emailed to

I am so saddened to hear of Myna's passing. My condolences to Thanh, children and her entire family and friends. I hope you find some comfort in your memories.

I worked with Myna at APS. She had a great sense of humor and always had stuff to sell. I still have a scarf which I still wear, that always reminds me of Myna. She was just a wonderful, witty person. I know she will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Myna.

My heart sank at the news of Myna's passing. I'm still in denial. She was too young to go!
I met Myna more than twenty five years ago, first it was mostly over the phone, and when I transferred to the Ed Center, we grew closer and closer. Myna always stopped by my office to say hello, we would update each other with news about our families.

Her contagious smile was her trademark, I never experienced Myna being upset or mad about anything, always positive and always busy. She was a busy lady.
She would always joke about having Tiffany marrying one of my sons....."we'll be family" -she would say- laughing all the way.
I will tremendously miss Myna, her life was an example for many of us, strong, dedicated, loving, caring and gifted with a great positive attitude. I will miss you my friend! Rest in peace!

Myna was one of my favorite Sistah's at APS. She was such a loving spirit. She always made me laugh. We would meet in the elevator at the beginning of the workday to greet each other.

Our conversations were one of a kind. She always spoke of her children and grandchildren. She greeted me as her SISTAH each time we spoke. She was my sister!!!! I will miss her dearly.

Rest in Peace My Dear Sistah!

Wow I can’t believe I’m writing this. As tears stream down my face I remember the phone calls of Myna greeting me MY SISTAH. She always said I was her Sister from another mother. She was always so sweet and gentle and loving. No matter what she was going through she was always positive and encouraging. Her smile was infectious. 😂 she always had someone to sell me I still have those too small leather gloves that she tricked me into buying because she said My SISTAH I give to you for good price 😂. Your mom will be missed she was truly a blessing and I will never forget her.

Myrna had such a sweet soul. When I first started with APS decades ago she was one of the first to genuinely welcome me to APS. We used to have morning conversations when I was on the 4th floor. When I moved to the ground floor those morning moments became far and few between but when we were able to talk it was always familiar. I will miss seeing that sweet smile. Family you were definitely blessed to have her and so was APS. Rest In Peace my sweet friend.

Myna was a friend, a confidant and such a sweet and loving person. She and I would come in early so we could have "our time" (thank you for the McD's, hot chocolate, the brown paper bags from Harris Teeter and my Black Forest Gummy Bears)! I could always count on her to help me clean up after our "Fat Friday" breakfasts or to help me decorate for the various celebrations; Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras, Chocolate Cake Day, the list goes on and on. During COVID we had limited access to the building, but Myna and I would come into work because as we would say, "We cannot work from home" and she carried that same work ethic all through her last months. She would still come in to finish up her invoices, get things in order, and give me instructions on what to do in the accounts payable system. I cannot express how much this loss hurts but I am so Blessed to have had such a very dear friend. Victor, Albert and Tiffany, your mother was a special woman and I hope that all of these memories from her friends and colleagues lets you know how much she meant to the APS family.
Rest Myna, your work here is done.
P.S. I got the stash of brown paper bags that you left for me.
I Love and Miss You My Friend!!!

Working with Myna was a great joy. I will miss Myna's, "Hi my friend what you got for me today?" or " I'm not your friend today because you gave me work" we both would LOL! Myna was a good friend & coworker, she made me smile. It was always a pleasure talking with her. I will miss Myna greatly.
