Nancy Joanne Smith Martino

On February 12, 2015 at her home in Arlington. Nancy was born on January 2, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Mildred Smith. She was a proud graduate of Washington –Lee High School and Hood College. She earned her Master’s Degree in Economics at American University and worked as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board. After having children, she returned to work as a day care center director at Blue Bird Day School, working with her dear friend Coral Wigent. She was a faithful caretaker for several family members, including her parents, her husband Vincent, her sister Carolyn and her son, Michael. As a member of Arlington Temple United Methodist Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir. She is survived by her son, Daniel Martino of Arlington and her daughter, Nancy Martino (Kris) of Lewes, Delaware. Friends may visit the Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd, on Thursday, February 19, from 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Murphy’s on Friday, February 20 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Columbia Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arlington Temple United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
