

Pearl Zorena Mudre, 100, went to her heavenly home on Sunday evening November 2nd, 2014. Born in Arnold PA, she resided in Arlington VA for 30 years and retired to Myrtle Beach SC in 1978 with her husband Mike. Pearl returned to Annandale, VA, in 1986 a few years after his passing and lived in Arlington once more, at Culpepper Garden, until 2013. She was most recently a resident of the Woodmont Center in Fredericksburg.
She is preceded in death by husband Michael Mudre and her two brothers, Orest Zorena and Peter Zorena. Pearl is survived by three children, Michaela Mudre Twomey (Ed), John Mudre (Beth), Stephen Mudre (Cathy), seven grandchildren, Allison Twomey Ford (Chris) of Dallas TX, Brian Twomey of Arlington, VA, Jessica, Stephen and Lauren Mudre of Herndon, VA, Julia Mudre Sarver (Eric) of Fairfax VA, and David Mudre of Fredericksburg. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Logan Mudre and Elina Sarver.
Pearl graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She taught high school business in her hometown then moved to Washington DC where she had several internships with the FDA during WWII. She went on to teach at the Washington School for Secretaries and American University for many years.
Pearl married in 1948 and had her three children at ages 37, 38 and 42. She was very active in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and later with St. John’s Episcopal in Arlington where she sang in the choir.
Pearl was a teacher’s teacher. She loved education and instilled that into her children. She served as proofreader for the Culpepper Garden newspaper, the Clarion, well into her 90’s. She loved to read and was always eager to learn. She began art classes in Myrtle Beach after the age of 70. She also loved to play bingo in her later years and did so past the age of 100, winning often.
A viewing will be held on Friday November 7th at Murphy’s Funeral home in Arlington VA from 2-4 PM with a service to follow. Dr. Robert Sizemore will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
