

Maj. Raymond Labas, USMC (Ret.), 91, of Fairfax, VA died on Sunday, 6 March 2022. He was predeceased by his brother Leonard Labas, and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa (Meyer) Labas, also of Fairfax, his children, Stephen and Catherine (Salerno) Labas, of Alexandria, Va., Frank and Julie (Labas) Maldonado, of Libertyville, IL, Raymond and Stacy (Keating) Labas of Chantilly, VA., Christopher Labas of Washington, DC, John and Linda (Willis) Labas of Woodbridge, VA., Paul and Hannah (Brown) Labas of Kernersville, NC, and by a brother, Philip Labas, of Roanoke, VA., as well as ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Maj. Labas was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1931. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948 and retired from active duty in 1968. He earned a BA in Political Science with a minor in Art History from the University of Maryland. He continued his service to the Corps in a civilian capacity at Henderson Hall and eventually as Director of Command Support at Quantico, from which he retired in 1990.
Maj. Labas, a devout Catholic, was a devoted husband and father. He was a true Renaissance man, imparting his Faith, his avid love of his Croatian cultural heritage and his vast knowledge of art, music, sports, history, and literature to his children.
Visitation is Monday, 14 March, from 3-7 pm at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd in Arlington. and a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, 15 March at 10:00 am at The Basilica of St. Mary, 310 S. Royal St. in Alexandria. Interment will take place at Quantico National Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
