Rhett Summers

On January 14, 2011, Gordon Rhett Summers passed away at his residence in Arlington, VA. Son of the late Gordon Watt Summers and Grace Carr Summers of Bluefield, WV.

Rhett is survived by his life partner of 22 years, Thomas McRoberts. Brother of Rita (Tom) Summers Doyle. He is also survived by three nephews, Robbie Torres, Shane Green, Seth Green and their families. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Rhett graduated from Princeton High School in 1962, moved to Washington D.C. and began his career with the Federal Government; serving in the National Guard, working as a civilian in Vietnam, finally working with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon before retiring at 55. Rhett enjoyed his retirement: he loved traveling, riding roller coasters, playing the piano and cooking. He belonged to the Metropolitan Community Church, Washington D.C. and was active in the choir. Friends may call on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Metropolitan Community CHurch of Washington, D.C., 474 Ridge Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20001 from 5 to 7 p.m. where services will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, D.C.
