Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Robert J. Cranna passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 87. Mr. Cranna proudly served his country, enlisting in the US Navy during World War II, later serving in the US Army during the Korean War, before retiring from the US Air Force in 1963. Mr Cranna, the second of two boys born to the late Katherine and James Cranna of the Bronx, New York, loved sports; he was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. His favorite activities included reading non-fictional historical books and documents, traveling extensively throughout the USA, keeping in touch with his Irish heritage, and cheering for his teenage grandson’s (Matthew Padeway) baseball team. Mr. Cranna, beloved husband of the late Ruth S. Cranna, was preceded in death by his son, Matthew A. Cranna of Denver, CO, and his older brother, James Cranna of Hudson, NY. He is survived by his daughter Roberta C. Padeway and her husband, Oscar; daughter Mariah A. Cranna; step-son George Scott III and his wife, Jerri; and several nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. Inurnment will take place, along with his wife Ruth, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, graveside, at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
