I met Mr Bob in the winter if '91 at the military bank in Benjamin Franklin Village, Mannheim , Germany. He was there visiting bank manager and friend, Herr Köhler.  We engaged in a bout of witty repartee and became fast friends. We'd occasionally meet up for lunch or dinner at some obscure yet amazing restaurant he'd sussed out.  He sold me his pristine , Carolina Blue 1972 Mercedes Coupe when he left Germany and made a day trip to Raleigh so he could be the first to officially photograph me and my son on the day of his birth. Fortunately, my stepson and his wife live in the Phoenix area and I was able to connect with Mr Bob during recent visits.  While making what was probably his final lap of the South visiting friends and family, he bent the route to include me. I count Bob's friendship among my dearest and I'm so glad to have known him. Today, I wear the owl pin he gave me.. a reminder of a great man, a true patriot, a talented artist and forever friend.

Sad and grateful, reading the news of Bob's passing. He was a good friend to my husband, Sherman, and I while we all lived in the Mannheim Germany area. He took our engagement photos in the gardens of the Weinheim  castle grounds, had "interesting" and expensive dinners out with Sherman and Tim J., and helped us entertain my mother, with pre-dinner martinis, in Viernheim. We lost touch and I have his daughter-in-law's sister to thank for a reunion call in Nov of last year. Looks like you got out of the way of this Covid-19 business, and for that I'm thankful. We'll miss knowing that you were with us. Love ya, Pat Ruge

My heart is broken.  I was shocked when Karl called me.  Thank you for the call.  Your dad was special.  I met him in 1994.  We had a joke that it was a lot cheaper to buy a car every year then change a spouse.  He always made me smile.  I loved his old military stories even if he told them to me three times.  I acted like it was the first time and his sweet eyes twinkled with joy.  He told me that I had been a part of selling him cars and his last one in January was #91!!!  He trusted me and I always took good care of him.  
He was a loyal customer, but more importantly he was my kind sweet friend.  He promised me lunch in February or March and said he would not take no for an answer as this was important to him.  This will be my standing date forever!  Robert, please rest in peace as I know you are in heaven and one day we will share the lunch you promised me. To his family and especially his children, he loved you so much and I am truly sorry for your loss.   Kisses and hugs forever Robert, you will always be in my heart and prayers.  Terres
