Robert E. Jackson was born on February 4, 1937. He is predeceased by his loving wife Alliette Bergeot Jackson who recently passed away September 9, 2021 as well as by his parents, Marguerite M. Jackson and John H. Jackson, sister Helen Liesman and brother John H. (Sonny) Jackson.
Robert is survived by his brother Albert C. Jackson as well as sister in laws Sadie Jackson and Hazel Jackson, brother in law Pierre Bergeot, nieces Karen M. Carky (with husband Paul Carky), Donna Jackson (with husband Troy Myers) and Tammy Jackson Riley, nephews John Jackson (with wife Jennifer Jackson and their son Liam Jackson) and Michael Jackson (with wife Sarafina Jackson), several great nieces and nephews as well as many friends and neighbors.
Robert grew up in Southwest DC and worked in Contracts at the General Services Administration (GSA) and learned the value of hard work from his mother, Marguerite, who worked at the Pentagon into her 80’s. Robert was proud of his Government service and held awards for exemplary service, which he proudly displayed in his home. Robert studied law and finance and had a shrewd mind for business. Robert never hesitated to provide investment advice to family and friends.
In his younger years, Robert was a weight lifter and health enthusiast. He wrote recommendations for men’s health magazines and was proud that some of his recommendations were printed in an acclaimed men’s health magazine. He was proud of this and kept the article in his most prized possessions.
Robert was a loving son to his parents and took great care of them in their golden years in order that they could stay in their Arlington home. Robert was part of a family that celebrated holidays with loving family gatherings with delicious food – particularly at Christmas and Thanksgiving with incredible turkey dinners. Easter was celebrated with scrumptious ham dinners, followed by an Easter egg hunt in the back yard for the kids, where Robert delighted in hiding the “golden egg” for the kids to enthusiastically find.
Robert was a loving husband to his beloved wife Alliette. Together they went on many adventures to France to visit with Aliette’s family. Robert particularly enjoyed their visit to Versailles and was impressed by the incredible architecture and gardens. Robert and Alliette both enjoyed a love of French food and wine and where known for their incredible five course French meals they delighted in making for family and friends. Alliette worked at several renowned Arlington French restaurants and Robert would frequent the restaurants to enjoy a delicious French meal with Alliette.
Robert and Alliette also enjoyed their trip to Mackinac Island, Michigan where they attended the wedding of their niece Donna. During this trip, they delighted in carriage rides along the scenic coast and town of Mackinac island, as well as boat rides, where they never seemed happier together. Alliette recently passed away September 9, 2021 and Robert was lost without his beloved “Poupette” (doll in French) so it is comforting to family and friends to know they are together again.
Robert and Alliette shared a love for animals and doted upon their tuxedo kitty Mallory, who they lovingly cared for 17 years. Mallory had quite the life with Robert and Alliette, who spoiled her rotten with treats and toys. Every phone conversation with Robert and Alliette included an update on Mallory’s latest antics.
If you would like to remember Robert and Alliette, donations can be made to the ASPCA (in which Robert was a lifelong donor) or a local animal shelter of your choice.
Visitation will be at Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington on Tuesday, 25 January 2022 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM followed by a prayer service at 2:00PM.
