Sadye Calvene Sanders transitioned peacefully to eternal life on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at home with her family in Falls Church, Virginia. Sayde lived a rich and fulfilling life to age 79 as a loving mother and devoted grandmother, a paralegal dedicated to servicing the private sector and a faithful and active church elder. Her gifts and grace were blessings to all who knew her. Sadye Calvene Sanders was born September 13, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee to the Reverend Edwin Clifton. and Jessie LaRosa Sanders, Sr. who lovingly raised her and two siblings to lives of achievement and service. Being a minister’s daughter, she traveled with her parents over most of the Central South meeting people from all walks of life. From these outside forces, and love and understanding in her home, she began to form many of her values and ideals of life and living. Sadye was educated at Merrill High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She earned her B.A. from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee and a Paralegal Certificate from George Washington University, in Washington, DC. While attending Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio she met SGT. Earl Mayfield, Jr. they married in 1964. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Jessica Inez and Dwayne Ashton. As a military wife, Sadye traveled with her husband to various military post in the US and Europe. Sadye’s professional career blossomed when the family returned from Germany. In the role of Director of Human Services with the Memphis Urban League, she was able to impact the lives of individuals and families in the city. Sadye’s experience with the Memphis Urban League and her passion served her well when she took on the role of Community Services Program Coordinator with the Saunders B. Moon Community Center in Alexandria, VA. Sadye’s talents also served her well as a Finance Analyst with the Xerox Corporation in Arlington, VA. In June 2013, Sadye decided to retire from her Paralegal career with HMSHost Corporation in Bethesda, MD to spend time with her family and travel. Sadye was loving, caring, easy to talk to and always willing to lend an ear. She enjoyed “church” the building, the people and would go anywhere to help those in need of her services. Sayde leaves a loving and devoted family to cherish her memory: two children Jessica Inez Mayo (Allan), Dwayne Ashton (Gwendolen) Mayfield, foster daughter: Melinda Osman, two granddaughters: Victoria Mayo and Jordan Osman; siblings: Rita Sanders Geier, Reverend Edwin C. (D. Billye) Sanders II , niece and nephews: Edwin Simunye, Christopher M. Geier, Jonathan S. Geier, Grace Sanders Johnson, Joseph W. Sanders, and many other children, grandchildren and friends of her heart who were part of her family. Our world will go on with memories of our beloved mother always…Sadye you were ready and prepared all of us for your transition.
