Stephen Peter Berg, 69, of Arlington, VA went to be with his Creator, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 13, 2021. He was born to Clayton and Jo Ann Berg on December 20, 1950, in Dallas TX. Stephen was raised by missionary parents in San Jose, Costa Rica, and was the eldest of three children. A graduate of Miami-Dade Community College and Florida Atlantic University (with a major in history and a minor English), Steve also did post-graduate Christian Studies at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1980 he moved to Arlington, VA. Following several years working in the White House, preparing correspondence for the President, he later joined the National Prayer Breakfast organization, retiring in early 2021. Steve was known for his kindness and his sense of humor, was a highly valued friend to many, and a very engaged part of his church family at St. Mary Orthodox. He was a wonderful uncle to his nephews and nieces, who loved him dearly. He read extensively on many subjects, was an excellent writer and editor, and loved many styles of music with special interest in classical music and singing in choirs. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Jo Ann Schell Berg. He is survived by his 93 yr. old father Clayton Berg of Penney Farms, FL, sisters Catherine Berg Greig (Gary) of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Joan Berg Yoder (Ron) of Lincoln, NE. He is also survived by four nieces and nephews—Kristen Yoder Strom (William), Jonathan Greig, Rivkah Greig, and Michael Yoder, and by grandnephews Angus Strom and Duncan Strom. Also surviving are an aunt, Barbara Berg Olivas (Robert) and ten cousins—Donald Schell, Nannette Schell Notor, Peter Schell, Melinda Schell, David Robinson, Carol Robinson Middleton, Martha Robinson Wood, Jack Robinson, Carrie Olivas Kuliev, and Craig Olivas. His cousin Paul Robison preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at St Mary Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA on Saturday September 18, 2021, at 11:00 am, followed by a graveside service at Columbia Gardens Cemetery at 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mary Orthodox Church on 7223 Roosevelt Ave. in Falls Church, VA.
