OBITUARY

Teresa "Tere" Madrid

July 9, 1937August 8, 2020

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, M. Teresa (“Tere”) Madrid, loving mother and grandmother passed away at age 83 at home with her family by her side. Tere was born on July 9, 1937 in Guatemala City to Joaquin and Marta Madrid. She is survived by her sister, Maria Rosario, her five children, Marcy, Teri, Maria (Ray), Ron (Tracy) and Cathy (Brad) and her ten grandchildren. Tere lived a full and exciting life. She retired from a long tenure at Mars Incorporated where she worked as a Marketing Properties Director. She completed two Marine Corp marathons and traveled the world. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. When she wasn't with her family she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and zipping around Arlington County in her little blue convertible. There was no obstacle too big for her – she was a force to be reckoned with. Like the words of her favorite Frank Sinatra song . . . She did it her way. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

Tere was a wonderful personality, colleague and friend. There were no bounds to her love of family, or feelings for others with whom she was close. The pride she had for her Latino heritage was known to all. Intelligent, assertive, compassionate, diligent and humorous are only some of the facets of her character. Sharing a part of Tere’s life was a joy and an honor. Rest well, dear “Doña Teresita.” You will be missed, far and wide. Continue to smile on all of us who were fortunate to have your love and friendship. Garo Partoyan, “Don Garito”

I have missed seeing Theresa out and about walking her dog and zipping around in her mini convertible. She would always tell me, with such exuberance, when it was her birthday and how old she was going to be that year. My condolences to her family (whom she talked about with such love and warmth) and her friends.

My deepest condolences, Tere will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She had spunk, style and a certain feistiness that were all hugely enjoyable to anyone lucky enough to spend some time with her. Her very cheery home and gardens matched her personality. I loved seeing her when I was lucky enough to catch her outside on my daily dog walk. Sending heart-felt thoughts and prayers.

Ronnie and I were best friends growing up. She always welcomed my self and my family into her home. She was like a second Mom to me. May she rest in peace in Heaven❤.
Love you Mom always,

She will be missed in the neighborhood💕. She welcomed my son Aiden and our dog Indio when we moved into the hood 5 years ago.

We have lived across the street from Tere for the past 20 years, and I will never forget her warmth, graciousness, and loving personality. When we moved in, she welcomed us with open arms, and shared her wisdom on so many occasions, as she watched my kids grow up. I will miss our chats and her kind smile. My deepest condolences to your family.

Dear Marcy, Groby and all the family,
My deepest condolences are being sent to you all from the bottom of my heart. Tere made such an impression on me the first time that I had the pleasure of meeting her in the beautiful town of Windsor U.K. Gracie so adored her grandmother and I soon understood why. She was such a remarkable lady, super stylish, sophisticated and hugely intelligent. I could talk to her for hours, her gorgeous smile and intoxicating laugh drew you in to a world of sunshine and love. I know that she will be missed so very much by you all, so for me seeing her walking down the hill from the castle in Windsor on the way to Marks and Spencer in an elegant shawl and a fancy pair of glasses will be my favourite memory x I love you Pippa

I had the privilege of working with and knowing Tere both before and after joining Mars. She was little in stature but big of heart all topped off with the cheekiest of grins and a head of white hair that you could see coming a mile off! A force of nature before I joined Mars and a guiding light after I did. Spending personal time with Tere whilst I was in the US for work was always special. Condolences to all her family and friends

Tere and I met through our dogs...She always welcomed me into her home for tea and a chat and on nice days we would enjoy her garden. She was an excellent listener and what I loved about her is no matter how complex my woes, nothing really phased her. She would always give me excellent advice and tell it like it is...she never sugar coated anything. I will miss those talks and will continue to be inspired by such a strong and tough as nails friend. Miss you so much...RIP

Marcy, Teri, Maria, Ron, and Cathy,

My heart is one with all of you with all of you with the sorrow of the
shocking news of Tere's death.

Tere was a good friend and we shared many happy times together...wonderful memories. The mold was broken on the day she was born, she was so full of life and fun to be with, yet fought mightily for what she believed was right and just winning many a battle. Tere was loyal and dedicated to her family, friends, and her life's values.

Tere will be missed... she left us far too soon, and now she is on the wings of the Angels. We will see Tere again.

Much love to you all,
Barbara Stutler
