

Weyzero Tibebe Mekuria was born on May 1, 1946, in Adere Teko, Harrar Ethiopia to Weyzero Wubitu Kidane and Aleka Mekuria Nadew. She was raised with love and spiritual nurturing in the province of Harrar, Ethiopia. As was customary during her time, she began her education through the church before transitioning into modern schooling.
Weyzero Tibebe later moved to Addis Ababa, where she held various administrative roles. Her professional journey took her to Abidjan, Ivory Coast where she worked for several years. Upon returning to Ethiopia, Weyzero Tibebe embraced entrepreneurship. She established a successful café in the well-known Arat Kilo business district and ran it forseveral years. Later, she expanded her business venture by opening a beauty salon located at the prestigious Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel — a testament to her dedication, vision, and work ethic. In August 1980, she moved to the United States and settled in New York City, where her daughter later joined her. Weyzero Tibebe resided in New York for over 35 years. In her retirement, she moved to Virginia to be closer to her sister, nieces, and nephews.
From her youth to her final days, Weyzero Tibebe lived a life of strength, independence, and grace. She is survived by her beloved daughters and son, grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who held her dear.
A visitation for Tibebe will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM at External Service Location, 2912 King St, Alexandria, VA 22302. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at External Service Location, 9900 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22032.
