I have so many fond memories of Bill and me together as coaching assistants supporting our daughter's on the softball fields. His devotion to his family, his love for life and the genuine interest he shared with everyone he came in touch with will not be forgotten.

Barbara, I am so very sorry to learn that your beloved husband Bill has passed away.  I worked with him over the years with the Mutual Legislative Group while at Patton Boggs.  He was the paradigm example of  the reach of excellence as an advocate not only in public policy, but within the community as well.  I remember his commitment to the Lab School in a particular.  He will be so very missed!

Bill was a great friend and a class act from the day I met him at the Fiji house at MSU in 1971 through so many interactions on the Hill through the years when I was with Sonny and Roger.  We left Arlington in 2000 and lived in the same neighborhood as his father in Tupelo until coming to MSU in 2009.

Barbara, 

I was so sorry to learn today of Bill's illness and your family's great sorrow.  I so remember your courtship; sharing ideas for places to go in New Zealand on your honeymoon; your providing a place for my homeless furniture the year I travelled; and how excited you both were when Ben and Claire joined your families.  Bill was always loving and caring. What I appreciated about him most was that he seemed to throw a little different, unexpected twist on things just to remind us that he could not be confined by stereotypes or others' expectations--a white southerner getting a law degree from a historically black university; a dad being the primary school volunteer.  

Although I have not seen him since I left Washington for the second time almost 20 years ago, I still remember him as a kind gentleman who was confident and comfortable with himself, unfailingly gracious, and always curious about and interested in others.

No matter when it happens, it is always so hard to lose a husband and a father.  Charley joins me in sending our deepest sympathies to you, Ben, and Claire.  We hope the love and support of the many people who also loved and respected Bill will ease the days ahead.
