My deepest sympathies to the Doughten family for your loss. I worked with Dave on several occasions throughout my career at Boeing, most recently on the 777X where Dave retired from. I always enjoyed working with Dave. He was always willing to help out and work hard. Dave also brought a smile and sense of humor to every group he worked in. On the 777X we used to laugh at some of his "Dave-isms." When Dave didn't want to argue with someone he would say "I'll save my breath to cool my soup." When we would encounter an issue at work Dave would say "well that's a Hoo-Da-Poo-Da." I assume his family will understand that one better than we did. He was a good man, and will be missed by many.
