

Dora (Axtell) Carter was born September 1, 1915 in Yacolt, WA and passed away in Marysville, WA on March 24, 2010 at age 94. She grew up in Columbia City, OR and moved to Seattle, WA, where she graduated from Garfield High School in 1935. In 1940, Dora married Charles Carter and they had two daughters, Charleen (Jackie) and Judy.
Dora was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary for almost 70 years, as well as the drill team, and several bowling leagues throughout the Seattle area. She also volunteered for the Veteran's Hospital in Seattle. Dora lived in the same house in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle for 62 years until she moved to the Village at Granite Falls in 2002.
Dora is survived by her daughters, Charleen (Pat) Mendenhall, Judy Byron, and their special friend, Marianne (Doug) Knight; grandchildren, Diana (Jody) Reeves, Bill, Dennis, and Mark Peterson, Lisa Wolfe, Jody (Jamie) Hillery, Christy Byron, and Jenny (John) Gillett; step-grandchildren, Pat, Kelly (Lynnette), and Debbie Mendenhall; and also considered grandchildren, Shawn Merritt and Ray Bullock. Along with this extended family, she also leaves behind 18 1/2 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many others who called her grandma. She is also survived by her brother, Carl (Charlotte) Sigler; and sister, Pat (Kent) Hamrick.
Preceding her in death are, her former husband, Charles Carter; her parents, Bertha Sigler and Louie Axtell; siblings, Bea and Al; and her son-in-law, Harry Byron.
The family would like to thank Helen Dominte from Paradise Adult Family Home for the love and care she has provided for the last year, as well as, Dr. Whiteley and the Group Health Hospice team.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on April 10, at Granite Falls American Legion Cemetery.
