While our world is dimmer without her presence, there is profound peace knowing she has been reunited with the love of her life, her late husband Oliver "Punks" Smith. After 20 years apart, their beautiful love story has finally come full circle, and they are together once more, walking hand in hand, in the presence of the Lord.
Born in Aberdeen, Washington on July 6, 1937 to Finnish immigrants Ralph and Elsie Holm, Emilie was the oldest of three girls. She married Oliver Smith in 1957 and spent 49 joyous years together until his passing in 2006. Built on a life of faith and love, they raised four children together, Ken, Don, Ed, and Kathy.
Emilie faithfully attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Arlington, Washington, where she sang in the choir. She had a servant's heart and took great care in bettering her community. She served as Chair of the Arlington Frontier Days/Fourth of July Committee, served on the Arlington Cemetery Board, and was a part of the Women's Fire Department Auxiliary and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Ruthanne (Dennis) VonBargen and Patricia (Bob) Schreck; her children Ken (Janice) Smith, Don (Melanie) Smith, and Kathy (Stuart) Nethery; her 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family members and close friends.
Emilie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oliver, and her son Ed.
To allow the family time to grieve privately, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
