Evelyn May Lane passed away peacefully at home in Arlington on December 15, 2010 from a glioblastoma (brain tumor). She was born to Bessie (Sirucek) and Miroslav Fiala on November 11, 1927 in Hanson, Idaho, the youngest of three children.
Evelyn graduated from Jerome High School in 1945 and married Kenneth J. Lane the following year. The couple farmed in Idaho for seven years before moving to Stanwood, Washington. Several years later they moved to Silvana and in 1959 settled in the Arlington area where they dairy farmed for many years. The couple had five children.
Evelyn was a homemaker and while their family grew, her summers were busy gardening and preserving food; winters she sewed clothes for the family. As empty nesters, she and Kenneth turned their dairy farm into a Christmas tree farm (Christmas Tree Lane). During the tree season she sold craft items she made throughout the year.
She was a member of the Loyal Heights Club and an active volunteer for many years making quilts for Wrap Them in Love and knitting hats and scarves for charity. She rarely missed her Tuesday morning bingo games at the Stillaguamish Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth, brothers George and Roger, and grandson, Casey.
She leaves behind five children: Mary (Lew) Wasicki; Jean (Don) Olson; Joanne (Bob) Gibbons, Jim (Nora) and Robert (Katrina); nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are by Weller Funeral Home and services will be on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Magnolia Hall, 225 E Third Ave, Arlington, WA.
Arrangements under the direction of Weller Funeral Home, Arlington, WA.
