Born January 26th, 1937 at the family home in Bennetville, (North of Darrington), Washington. He fell asleep in death, at his home surrounded by his family on January 28th, 2013. The most important things in his life were his family, friends, old (and fast) cars, going to dances, and driving log trucks.
He met Doreen Swanson on a blind date to her Senior Prom in 1958. Less than a year later they were married and remained together for 54 years. He was a loving, caring, giving, generous, hard-working man. He was raised in Darrington, quitting school early to begin his career. He also served three years in the U.S. Army. He worked as a logger and drove log trucks for most of his life, while raising two daughters with Doreen. Several surgeries and other health issues eventually forced him into retirement after which he spent most of his time visiting with family and friends. He loved going up to “Ike’s Drive In” to swap stories with his trucking buddies and the many other friends he made there. COPD forced him to spend his last few years mostly staying at home. Doreen was his loving caregiver until the end.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Irving R. and Lucille Olson and in-laws, Tage and Evelyn Swanson. He is survived by his loving wife Doreen; daughter Pam (Jef) Forsman; daughter Stacey (Randy) Graafstra; granddaughter Amber (Scott) Campbell; granddaughter Amanda (Ray) Bagdazian; grandson Jeffrey Forsman, Jr.; grandson Cory Graafstra; great-grandson Iain Campbell; sister Betty (Don) Knowles; brothers, Victor (Dixie) Olson, Phillip (Patti) Olson, John (Cindy) Olson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Evergreen Hospice, Arlington Fire Dept., or an organization of your choice.
