Judy Marie Alexander, 87, passed away on August 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Lake Stevens, Washington. Born on September 25, 1937 in Emporia, Kansas daughter of the late A.M. “Tex” Johnston and DeLores Honea Johnston, she lived her early years in the mid-West and loved to recall many fun summers on her Grandparents’ farm in Kansas with chickens and horses, and in Texas riding the train with her grandfather who was a conductor on the Santa Fe. Her father’s career as an aviation test-pilot brought the family to upstate, NY where her brother Gary was born in Tonawanda, and later to Wichita, Kansas where her sister, Barbara Jean was born. In Judy’s early teens her family moved to the Seattle area where she enjoyed her youth on the shores of Lake Washington, attended Bellevue High School and celebrated early life milestone events with family, schoolmates and friends. She would always light up a room with her wonderful sense of humor, and her laughter was often the spark that brought people together.
Judy was a wonderful mother to her three daughters and a loving wife. She was a talented homemaker, seamstress and cook and because her family moved often, she always created an environment that made every place feel like home. She had a warm and welcoming personality, and her kitchen was a place of comfort, creativity, and connection. She loved to entertain and throw lavish dinner parties including creative table settings inspired by beautiful treasures she acquired through her travels, and time working in retail at the Bon Marche in Bellevue. Living in several coastal communities over the years, especially in Florida and Los Angeles, she brought fun and adventurous road trips with her girls to the beaches, singing songs, soaking the sun and salt water, riding along the sand on bicycles and celebrating life. She loved the mountains of the North Cascades, and beautifying surroundings inside and outside wherever she lived. Judy had a special style and impeccable fashion sense admired by many. She played the boogie-woogie blues on the piano, loved to impersonate various R&B, jazz singers, oftentimes sending the family into complete ‘stiches’ more times than one could count. She was a storyteller at heart and her grandchildren loved hearing about her many adventures!
Most of all, Judy loved her family. She is survived by her husband, James Boll of Arlington, WA, her three daughters, Katie Alexander of Escondido, CA, Lisa Keks of Temecula, CA (husband Peter and grandchildren Peter and Kristen Keks), and Susan Munter of Poulsbo, WA (husband Chris and grandchildren Maxwell, Samuel, late son Carter Townsend).
She is also survived by her loving brother Gary and sister-in-law Marilyn Johnston of Arlington, WA (their 4 children Ross Johnston, Lacey Banks, Debbie McHugh, Amy Buchart) and her sister Barbara Greenland of Spokane, WA (her daughter Jamie and son Joshua Fowler). Judy was blessed with the love and warmth of her grandchildren and several nieces and nephews all of whom helped to create lasting memories during multiple family reunions hosted on the Johnston property in Arlington.
Later in life, Judy embraced the Catholic faith and became a devoted member of The Immaculate Conception Church in Arlington where she found friendship and spiritual peace. She found comfort in praying the Rosary and drew strength from her faith, especially during her final days and battle with an unknown neurological disease characterized by loss in muscular strength which left her bedridden for over a year. Despite her suffering near the end, Judy remained hopeful and full of grace. Her courage, eternal optimism, and sheer zest for life left everyone who met her in awe. Judy was and still is an inspiration to us all.
