Patricia (Patsy to her family, Pat to her friends) McClellan Buchanan died peacefully in the hospital on April 9th, 2020 in Everett, WA at the age of 78 after a valiant fight, due to complications from the COVID-19 virus.
Pat is survived by her husband Larry Buchanan; children Nancy and Edgar Buchanan; sister Mary Carolyn McClellan (Daniel Fifis); brother Elias (Billy) Whilden McClellan and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Patricia and Elias Whilden McClellan.
Pat was born on April 8, 1942 in Charleston, SC. Her children loved hearing all of the wonderful stories of growing up in her beloved town of McClellanville, SC. They also loved the traditional southern food that she cooked and often asked for shrimp and grits as special occasion meals.
She married Larry Buchanan, a navy submarine sailor, in January of 1970. He once told Nancy he knew as soon as he met her, he wanted to marry her but was afraid she would say no. Lucky for us, she said yes and they spent 50 years together. After moving to Seattle WA so Larry could complete his college degree, Pat began working for Delta Dental of Washington where she retired after 24 years.
Pat will be remembered as a thoughtful, generous, and loving person. She always made you feel welcome, was a great listener and you felt better after spending time with her. Pat always made sure everyone she knew was celebrated or honored and would always put a lot of thought into giving the perfect gift.
We have lost a great friend, a beloved wife, a wonderful mother, a fantastic sister and caring aunt. The world is a sadder place without Patsy in it. She will be missed.
A memorial is not scheduled at this time, but the family will share details when it is appropriate for us to gather together and celebrate Pat’s life.
