

Becky was born on July 19,1953, daughter of Marion C. Brown and Frederick R Brown Jr. She grew up in Ridgefield, CT before her family move to a Denver suburb in 1967 where Becky made fast friends and enjoyed riding her horse, skiing, and hiking. After graduating in 1971 from Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colorado Becky went on to attend Cornell College in Iowa where her career path was one of service to others. She majored in History. After graduation she worked as a Vista Volunteer outside of Little Rock, Arkansas organizing sports and art activities for youth and the community. From there Becky moved to Seattle and worked in nonprofit fundraising for many years. Her accomplishments included managing the Tile Project for the Pike Place Market Foundation as well as fundraising for Swedish Hospital and Bastyr University. She then worked as a fundraising consultant to Town Hall Seattle, KPLU, KCTS and other nonprofit organizations.
Becky was an active community volunteer raising money for the Mount Baker Community Club, co-founding the Columbia City Farmer’s Market, and was a major fundraiser for the Mount Baker
Rowing and Sailing Center Expansion Project.
She was a member of the Conibear Rowing Club for over 30 years. Becky served as president and fundraising cheerleader. On the water she was known as Mighty “Lighty”. She rowed competitively at the local, regional and international Masters Rowing Regattas.
Becky had a passion for gardening and art and enrolled in Edmunds Community College Horticultural Design Program and developed landscape plans for residences in the Seattle area. She also painted with a playful style. She illustrated a children’s book “The Coot”.
In 2000 Becky and her partner Martha Goodlett bought a farm near Mount Vernon, WA and developed Lake Cavanaugh Farm as a market garden. Becky was famous for her beautiful country bouquets and her charm with the farm stand customers.
Beyond these accomplishments Becky will forever be remembered as a creative, generous, empathic, and kindhearted soul who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her spouse Martha Goodlett of Seattle and Mount Vernon, Washington as well as her siblings Marion Brown of Scarborough, Maine, Fred Brown of Montrose, Colorado and Michael Brown of Guemes Island, Washington. In addition, she leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and their children in Colorado and Washington. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Skagit County Land Trust.
