Ronald Glenn Verhage

Ronald Glenn Verhage was born September 12th, 1939 near Waupun, Wisconsin. After a determined battle with cancer, Ron passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his Lake Stevens home July 17th, 2016.

Ron was raised in a community minded family dedicated to strong values. He earned a business degree from Lakeland College and attended Michigan State University and UCLA earning his MBA. Joining the Navy in 1960, Ron found great adventure and exceptional success. Of his numerous medals and deployments, including Vietnam, his experiences in Japan, Hong Kong, and especially Antarctica were particularly enriching to him. His naval career was a steep ascent that allowed for his considerable abilities to shine, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His distinguished service officially ended with his Navy retirement in 1981 but his connection and affinity never wavered.

Brought here by the military, Ron settled his family in Lynnwood, Washington and worked many years as General Manager of Lee Grocery. Ron’s version of retirement included several stints as a college instructor, pouring wine for Columbia Winery, and preparing tax returns during tax season. First at H & R Block, and in recent years at Lake Stevens Tax Service, he thrived helping people and was an Enrolled Agent. He truly enjoyed his clients and received countless thanks and compliments from customers.

Whether personal or professional, Ron cherished his relationships with family, friends, students, clients, and coworkers. To the delight of so many of us, he was an avid and bold cook. He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He was active in organizing Navy ship reunions and never missed an opportunity to honor those who served.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Donna. Survivors include his siblings Alan Ver Hage, Wayne Ver Hage and Judy Ten Pass. Daughter Venea Dahlgren, her husband Mark and their children David, Braden, Danica and Grant. Step daughter Jeanene Fray, her husband Alan and their children Julene and Penny. And Step son Jeff Campbell.
