James David Foster, age 88, of Hillsboro, Missouri, passed away on December 4, 2025, following a brief stay at Scenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Herculaneum, Missouri. He loved farming, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed travel, watching his catfish grow, wintering in Texas at the Roadrunner RV Park, taking part in its many social activities, playing games, working puzzles, and—above all—being with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie A. (Hensley) Foster; his parents; and one brother, William Dale Foster. He is survived by his children: David (Pamela) Foster of Dardenne Prairie, MO; Mark (Melisa) Foster of Epping, NH; Judy (Butch) Eckert of Hillsboro, MO; Sherry Starkey of Webster Groves, MO; and Jackie Brandt of Laredo, TX. He is also survived by two brothers, Don (Nancy) Foster of Tyrone, MO, and Bobby Foster of Bethalto, IL; three sisters, Alma Thomas of Tyrone, MO, Sheila Miller of Houston, MO, and Dorothy (Richard) Perkins of Raymondville, MO; along with ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and one very special friend, April Elfriede Provo of Arnold, MO.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life service and inurnment at Shepherd of the Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation in honor of Gianna Wacker and her courageous fight against Sanfilippo syndrome.
