Ken was born January 26, 1944 to Edward and Alvina (Eiler) Atzert. He graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School in 1962. On May 6, 1967 he married his high school sweetheart Margaret (Margie) Mayer where together, in a house of faith and love, they began a legacy of raising seven (7) children. He joined the Army National Guard in June 1968, serving 2 full years and continuing in the reserve for another 4 years. While working full-time, he attended night school through Washington University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Technology with certificates in Structural Design and Construction Management in 1977.
Ken spent his days camping with family and friends, leading the Boy Scout program for all three (3) of his sons, coaching sports and volunteering in all aspects at Immaculate Conception Church and surrounding community in Arnold, MO. He was known for the aroma of his pipe, love of his family both immediate and extended, warm hugs with a big kiss (whether you wanted it or not), welcoming of all into his home, his quick wit, devious smile, big heart and deep faith. He was a man of integrity and hard work, but most of all he was a continuous example of an unconditional, loving husband to his wife with whom he never missed an opportunity to twirl her on any type of dance floor.
Ken was a man of faith who kept a daily devotion reminding him “Good Morning, this is God! I will be handling all your problems today. I will not need your help, so have a good day.”
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Edward, his mother, Alvina, his brother, Joe and his sister, Bea. He is survived by his wife, Margie, his seven (7) children, Debbie (Mark) Schanda, Eddie (Michelle) Atzert, Susie (Eric) Seel, Laurie (Don) Lewis, Mindy (Kevin) Thomas, John (Leah) Atzert, Mike (Amy) Atzert, 21 grandchildren and three (3) great grandchildren.
