She was born on August 31, 1927 in Highland, Illinois to William and Caroline Schrumpf. On May 6, 1950 she married Jack Kirchhoff and together they raised 5 children in Arnold, MO. A devoted wife and mother, Leila delayed her nursing career to raise her family and returned to work outside the home in 1972. Leila cared for many people during her many years of nursing service, primarily at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis. She loved gardening, crafting, quilting, baking cookies, and helping others. Family activities were always fun, be it family reunions, impromptu gatherings or camping trips which usually involved fishing.
Prior to moving to Columbia, Leila was actively involved at St. Mark UCC in Arnold where she led the quilting group, providing transportation to the quilters in addition to her handiwork. She also picked up doughnuts and made coffee for Sunday fellowship time as well as providing flowers for Sunday service.
Leila is survived by four of her children – Barry (Jolene) Kirchhoff of Columbia, MO; Tim (Bonnie) Kirchhoff of Barnhart, MO; Allen Kirchhoff of Hazelwood, MO and Lisa (Robert) Hall of Taos, MO; 9 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wallace Schrumpf, husband, Jack Kirchhoff, daughter Gail (Kirchhoff) Hoffman, and three grandchildren.
