Lt. Commander US Navy Dale N. Baumann of St. Louis, MO passed away on Saturday January 16, 2021. He was born in St. Louis, MO on September 4, 1941 to the late Norval and Dorothy "Dot" (nee Volz) Baumann; Loving husband and best friend of Joyce B. Baumann (nee Berger); a great father of Tim (Cindy) Baumann, Mark (Denise) Baumann and the late Mike (Cathy still survives) Baumann; loving grandfather of Tim Baumann; loving brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Dale Baumann married the love of his life, Joyce, on May 19, 1962. They had three children Mike, Tim, and Mark.
Dale started out joining the Army Reserves while he was a senior in high school at St Mary's' where he served for eight years. Dale worked at UE (Ameren) for 33 years, retiring as a Substation Supervisor. Dale was an accomplished musician singing and playing the drums in a band for 15 years. Dale was involved in the Boy Scouts for ten years and served in different roles from Cub Master to Den Leader to Summer Camp Staff. After several years, Dale returned to Scouts for his grandson, Tim, as a Den Leader and took him from Tiger to Eagle Scout. Dale joined the Navy Reserves as an AE-2 E5 and retired after 21 years as a Lieutenant Commander. Dale was a Navy man who never served on a ship. He began as a Flight Attendant on the C-118 and a Crew Chief/Loadmaster on the DC-9 Transport Aircraft. After becoming an officer, Dale joined the Naval Security Force, and his responsibilities/duties included law enforcement, base security plans, and anti-terrorism.
Dale was an accomplished person throughout his life and served his community in many roles. A few of those accomplishments were: attaining his private pilot license, involved in countless fundraising activities, volunteer for the Bevo Community Center, organizing the Bevo Day parade, President of the 50+ Club at St. Bernadette's, the Honor Guard for funeral burials, and a member of the 20+ Club (military), where he served as an officer.
Dale was a Pappa/Pops to many and a friend to all.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold, MO 63010. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 21, 2021, 10:00 am, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, # 68 Sherman Ave., St. Louis, MO 63125. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church, everyone will meet at the church. Private Interment at Resurrection Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dale's Honor may be made to Jefferson Barracks Military Food Pantry, Attention Linda Switcher Ferguson.
