Steve was one of the first runners I spoke to when I first attended a Summer Speedwork with Big River. It was mile time trial day, and we were watching someone run their first lap at breakneck speed. We were both impressed and then amused when the next three laps went by quite a bit slower. When we'd both show up early for Tuesday night workouts, I'd join him for a few laps—which always ended up being closer to my workout pace than my warm-up pace.  Steve may be called quiet, but I typically found him to be exceptionally friendly, kind, and ready for a good laugh. And like this video shows, he routinely led the charge every Tuesday night. Whenever I'd run at Arnold City Park in the Spring, I'd always check his strava to see if it was flooded. When I saw he ran multiple laps there one morning, I went in the afternoon only to find myself wading water halfway through. I mentioned it a few days later and he said, "Oh, yeah. You gotta run through it." We ran a lot of miles together, and it's still hard to believe we won't have that opportunity anymore. Going to remember him every time I run that park loop. It'll be a comfort.

It’s still hard to believe that Steve is no longer with us. I first met Steve 6-7 years ago when he joined the Big River Racing Team. He was such a kind, positive, and dedicated guy. He was a great runner and an even better teammate. Steve will be missed. My deepest condolences to the Moore family.

I am the Fleet Feet Running Club Manager and I had the pleasure of working with Steve for many years. 

I can remember when Steve and I were chatting about whether he should either go for a Personal Best or Boston Qualifier. That boy just wouldn’t settle for less than both. 

I think that discussion is the epitome of Steve and his love for running. Never settling. Always going for “both.” 

I’m so sorry for your loss. 

Steve was always such a light in our Club and will be missed.

Steve was a warrior out there on the track, but more importantly a nice gentleman who was always smiling, laughing at jokes, and cheering his friends on as he lapped us. 

Steve struggled with only one thing in running that I could relate to, and that was punctuality for our Sunday morning long runs. One of our last conversations together was how nice it was they had just moved to a 7:30 am start time as opposed to 7:00 am, and it gave some of us a realistic shot at being there at the start.

I've only had the pleasure of running behind Steve for the past year with Big River. 

It was always a pleasure to see him at the Long Runs and the Track practices. You knew he always was serious about running, while having an incredible smile on his face. 

Seeing Steve's Strava posts, and his running in person, was a source of inspiration for me. How on earth was he running my fastest mile time, for 13.1 miles straight? 

I'll never forget cheering him on, while he caught up to the leaders of the pack before our long runs, and seeing him so far ahead of other runners at races. He made running blazing fast, look easy-peasy, while seeming to have the time of his life. It was infectious and uplifting. 

Just being around Steve taught me lessons about passion, fortitude, perseverance, and commitment. 

Steve Moore will be dearly missed by his community.
