David Lee Hinkle, 59, of Polk, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Born on September 13, 1965, in Paintsville, Kentucky, he was the youngest of four children born to John and Betty (Scarberry) Hinkle. His family moved to Ohio, and he was a 1984 graduate of Loudonville High School.
In 1987, Dave met the love of his life, Ronda Shoup, at Lyn-Way Restaurant. The two were married on June 25, 1988, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love and family. Dave was a longtime member of F.F.A. (Ashland-Alumni) and a devoted deacon at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren in Ashland.
A natural at woodworking, Dave enjoyed spending countless hours crafting beds, cabinets, and barns, often sharing his creations with family and friends. He renovated his home and several homes for family members, pouring his heart into every detail. His love for family was evident in everything he did, from his woodworking to his deep desire to care for and look out for others.
Dave’s professional life was marked by success and dedication. He began his career in cabinet sales at The Old Parsonage and went on to work at Carter Lumber for 13 years, where he achieved remarkable success as a million-dollar cabinet salesman for six consecutive years. His exceptional skills and kind nature made him a beloved colleague and friend.
In addition to his work and hobbies, Dave loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ronda Hinkle; daughters, Samantha (John) Sayers and Annette Hinkle; grandchildren, Jameson, Joel, and Jack Sayers; siblings, Betty Jean Slone, Gary Michael (Shirley) Hinkle, and Larry (Brenda) Hinkle; brother-in-law, Rick (Marty) Shoup; sisters-in-law, Regina (John) Stutzman and Ranita (Travis) Bates; mother-in-law, Marlene (Gerald) Shank; and adopted daughter Elizabeth Webb. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him “Uncle Davey.”
Dave is preceded in passing by his parents, John and Betty Hinkle; father-in-law, Ron Shoup; and grandson Jonah Carl Sayers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with Pastor Steve Keib officiating. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren or the Parkinson's Foundation.
