She was born on September 15, 1943, in Painesville, Ohio, to Clyde and Mabel (Edgell) Swiger. Janet was a woman of deep faith and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Ashland. She was also active with the VFW and AmVets of Ashland and retired from Samaritan Regional Health System after many years of dedicated service.
Janet loved life and the people in it. She was an avid book reader, a loyal viewer of The Young and the Restless, and never missed a chance to enjoy a Blooming Onion at Outback Steakhouse. A self-proclaimed Trekkie, she also enjoyed gospel and country music. Christmas was her favorite holiday, a season that perfectly reflected her love for family, faith, and tradition.
She especially cherished traveling with her beloved husband and best friend, John, whom she married on May 27, 1989. Janet was a very loving wife, mom, Grams, and Gigi—roles she held close to her heart. She was a true friend to many, known for her kindness, warmth, and genuine care for others. Above all else, Janet was a faith-filled Christian who loved the Lord and lived her life as a reflection of that faith.
Janet is survived by her husband, John Christian; her children, Joyce (Mark) Rauth, Paul (Trisha) Judd, Matthew (Dina) Judd, Dave Judd, Scott (Jody) Christian, and Betsy (Jeff) Slaviero; her sister, Diana (Julius) Szabo; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and more to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mabel Swiger, and her siblings, Arty Swiger and Tad Swiger.
