Judith Ann Halama Ebert, born November 26, 1937, passed peacefully in Ashland, Ohio, on March 28, 2025, with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, as well as her mother and father, John and Dorothy Halama.
Judy grew up in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Miami University where she met her husband, Jack. They made lifelong friends at Miami and would often tell stories of their shenanigans. They were married for 57 years. Their spirit lives on in their three children, John (Jackie) Ebert, Cathy (Mark) Stoneburner, and Joann (David) Lindner, and now ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Judy had a love for the beach and family. Being an only child, she appreciated having family around and just being part of the noise and laughter that the Ebert family brought. With that in mind, over 30 years ago, she organized a family trip to the Outer Banks for everyone to be together. Since the family was somewhat spread out, those annual trips provided the opportunity for all to develop closer relationships.
She cherished the gift of family, and that legacy will live on.
Judy enjoyed being social and just being out with people. She participated in many women’s clubs in Ashland over her 60 years there, such as Garden Study Club, Athena Study club, Amicae Per Annos Sorority, and she was also on the board at the Ashland Public Library. Judy was involved there for over 50 years. She was also a buyer and volunteer at the gift shop at Samaritan Hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing golf both leisurely and competitively with ladies as well as couples.
She loved taking care of her yard and was extremely proud of her hundreds of wildflowers she strategically planted. Judy expressed her creativity through cut flower arranging, writing funny yet simple poetry, being an amazing seamstress and through various thoughtful gestures toward friends. In her later years she enjoyed her life at her condo with her dog, Halie, going on shopping trips, watching her grandchildren play sports, and relaxing outside.
Judy could be ornery. This quality was still with her in her final days through her ‘famous’ eye rolls and sarcastic remarks, as recounted by her cherished healthcare friends at Belmont Towers and Wasen Rehabilitation Center. Her sense of humor and fire remained evident even as her body was failing. She still had the knack of making others smile and laugh.
Judy’s celebration of life will take place at the Green’s Bistro at Brethren Care Village, in Ashland, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashland Public Library or the Judith Halama Ebert scholarship through the Ashland County Community Foundation, 300 College Ave, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Wappner Funeral Directors-Ashland is honored to serve the Ebert family.
