

Barbara Fisher, a resident of Ashland, VA, passed away on February 20, 2026. She was born in East Tallassee on August 23, 1954, to Mattie Mary Milner and Morris C. Piner. Barbara lived a life defined by strong convictions, generosity, and deep love for her family.
In 1969, while in New York City, she met Rufino A. Fisher Sr. They were married on July 31, 1972, and shared 44 wonderful years until his passing on November 12, 2016. Barbara was strong-willed and could be stubborn, yet her strength was matched by kindness. She loved fiercely and showed that love by welcoming family and friends into her home for lively gatherings.
She was an avid gardener who loved butterflies, a talented seamstress, a great cook, and an enthusiastic traveler. Above all, she was devoted to her faith. A servant of Jehovah for more than four decades, she found great purpose in sharing her beliefs and serving her heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
Barbara is survived by her son, Rufino Fisher Jr. (Michelle Fisher); her daughter, Salima Chabot (Charles Chabot III); her grandchildren, Simone, Joshua, and Jasmine Fisher; her sister, Sarah Isom; beloved in-laws, Cassandra Deas, Luzeta Phillips, Rashidah Abdu-Rashid, Arturo Fisher, Edwardo Fisher, Ricardo Fisher, Erlin Jackman and many other family members, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses-Ashland, located at 14048 Greenwood Church Rd, Ashland, VA 23005. The service is scheduled for March 13, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
