

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Campbell Woods Sr.; her mother, Emion Haley Quarles; and her father, Scheer Durette Quarles.
A lifelong resident of Hanover County, Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Henry Clay High School in Ashland and later attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. She was a devoted member of Fork Episcopal Church in Doswell, Virginia. She was previously an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hanover. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully served on the Altar Guild at Fork Church and St. Paul’s.
Barbara possessed a remarkable creative spirit and was a talented artist whose paintings reflected her appreciation for beauty and nature. An accomplished gardener and Master Gardener, she found great joy in cultivating flowers and sharing her love of gardening with others. She was also a member of the Ikebana Club of Richmond and the Hanover Women’s Club. Barbara also enjoyed playing the piano and filled her home with music throughout her life. In earlier years, Barbara enjoyed traveling, exercising, socializing with friends, and playing bridge.
Barbara loved horses and was a skilled rider. She owned several horses throughout her life, including her beloved Tennessee Walkers, Big Red and Tucker. Many of her paintings reflected her great love of horses.
She also cherished many other pets throughout her life. Among her favorites were her numerous Scottish Terriers and, in later years, her beloved miniature doodle, Bobo.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michael Campbell Woods Jr. and his spouse, Angela, and Durette Quarles Woods and his spouse, Christie; her cherished grandchildren, Grayson Charles Woods, Catherine Larsson Woods, Skyler Garnett Woods, and Campbell Carter Woods; her sister, Elizabeth Quarles Moore; and numerous beloved cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Barbara’s kindness, creativity, faith, and love for her family will remain an enduring legacy to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to Barbara's visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy, Ashland, VA, on Friday, June 12, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at The Fork Episcopal Church, 12566 Old Ridge Rd., Doswell, VA, on Saturday, June 13, at 4:00. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Fork Church.
