Mrs. Ellis was a wonderful example as a Christian leader and as a partner to the pastor. She was always sweet and kind. I hold fond memories of FBC-Ashland because of Dr. and Mrs. Ellis. I am very saddened by the loss of a very strong woman of God. Sending my prayers to the family...

I visited Mrs. Ellis as often as I could on Stebbins Street and several times at The Manor until Covid closed their doors to visitors.
Mrs. Ellis was always gracious, warm and the very epitome of Southern charm.
She deeply mourned the passing of her husband, “James “ and said that after his death, she felt she had lost a part of her own body.
I loved to hear her stories of growing up on a farm and the memories she made there.
She and her sister would stand on stools at the kitchen sink and wash the dishes after every meal. She insisted that they had fun together and didn’t mind the task at all. She chuckled recalling her sister milking the family’s cow while she watched intently on a little stool. Then, the exciting rite of passage came and her own first attempt at milking ended with her sister being squirted in the face!
Mrs. Ellis always put her needs after the needs of others. She was a good listener and consoler for me and I’m sure for other people as well.
She was proud of her children and grandchildren but the focus, joy and love that
was her compass in life was her husband, “James”. I will miss her calling me “Darlin” and “Precious”. Truth be told, Mrs. Betty Ellis was the most “precious “ and “darlin”” lady that I have ever known.
It saddens me that I will miss her here on earth but she and her beloved husband are together with their Heavenly Father. Praise be to God. Rest In Peace and thank you for loving me.
