Carolyn Sue Palmer, born on March 25, 1940, Red Lion, Ohio, HS graduated from Springboro High School, Springboro , Ohio. Carolyn was a member of Red Lion Methodist Church, where she and her sister Jackie attended together. She leaves behind two brothers, Robert Thomas, “Bob” and Kenneth Martin “Kenny” Green. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest F. And Alice A. Green, and beloved sister Jacqueline Campbell.
She leaves behind four children, Gregory L. Palmer, Steve F. Palmer, Cassie P. Matthew and Kelly and Timothy Snyder. Carolyn’s loves of her life was her nine grandchildren: Palmer & Kendall Matthew, Parker & Davis Matthew, Garrett & Mikayla Palmer, Jessica Palmer, Clarissa and Charles Palmer, Ethan & Rebecca Snyder, and Jonah Snyder. She was also very excited to have four beautiful great grandchildren: Grayson & Owen Snyder, Shepherd Palmer, and Josie Palmer Matthew, she was just getting to know the great grandchildren at her passing.
Carolyn grew up in a small town. She recalled it being a tough upbringing, but it instilled countless values and virtues she carried with her throughout her life. She was conscientious, pragmatic, generous, and, most importantly, kind. She met her husband, Donald “Donnie” Palmer, when she was in high school. She worked at the “Hum Yum”, a local ice cream spot, and took great pride in working at such a “hip” place. Carolyn and Donnie married right out of high school, and traveled the country and parts of the world, largely related to Kings Dominion, an amusement park that is cherished by all of us. She kept her house immaculate—something we could all learn from her. However, it was her warmth, benevolence, and love that made it a home for all of us.
Our mother had many tradition's she shared with both her kids and her grandkids every year; popcorn balls at Halloween, Egg Nog at Christmas, Christmas Dinners, and Christmas Cookies, she had many tea parties with the grandchildren, Bon Fires in the fall! Grandma/Carolyn, packed a mean picnic lunch, for the park, for a road trip and for any sporting event she was invited to, you could count on her to bring a cooler packed with goodies and a clean wash cloth! Carolyn was a long time friend, to her HS girlfriends: Judy, Missy and Linda. She was an especially loving aunt to her siblings children, she had a great love for Kim Click and Diane Coates.
Carolyn passed away the way she lived—surrounded by family. She will be so unbelievably missed: her visits, letters, phone calls, and prayers. She never missed an important day for anyone she loved. If death is her kindly welcome, then I am no longer afraid. We will see each other again soon, for life is short. But in the meantime, we will honor her by living a life that Carolyn would be proud of.
Relatives and friends are invited to Carolyn's visitation on Wednesday, October 8th from 9 AM to 11 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA. Inurnment will be private at West Hampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the in her honor: https://www.helpfightra.org
