

David Manning Coddington, of Beaverdam, VA, went home to the Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the age of 84. Dave was born in Princeton, NJ, the son of Rev. David Leroy Coddington and Elizabeth Mary George. He earned a B.S. from Rutgers University and a M.S. from Columbia, and spent his professional career as a research chemist, first for the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and then for Exxon Chemical Co.
Dave had the good fortune to retire early, and settle in Beaverdam, in 1987. He was a Life Member of the West Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad, serving as EMT, motor officer and driver, over his 25 years. He was an honorary member of the Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Dept. A devoted man of faith, Dave served as both an elder and deacon of the Presbyterian Church.When he wasn’t giving his time generously to others as a “do-it-yourself” handyman, he enjoyed auto mechanics, sketching, and time at the beach.Dave enjoyed 62 years of “wedded adventure” with his wife, Doreen L. Coddington. He is survived by Doreen; his step-mother, Anne Coddington; siblings: Richard Coddington (Jeanne), Elizabeth Roth (the late Robert), Laura Barreire (William); children: Melissa Kanar (Thomas), David Coddington (Peggy), Melanie Coddington (James Hansen); grandchildren: Laura Stapleton (Jeff), Brian Muller (Jessica), Jason Kanar; and great-grandchildren: Gwendolyn and Rosalyn Muller. A memorial service will be held at Ashland Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 11th at 7pm, followed by refreshments and informal storytelling in the fellowship hall. Members of the West Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad will serve as honor guard.
