Edith Irene Bruce

Edith Irene Bruce, age 93, of Glen Allen, Va. has responded to the call of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded in love and passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Monroe Bruce; son, Keith Michael Bruce; grandchild, Renata Tiffany Bruce; and her parents, Dollie Edna and Walter Ainsley Smith.

Edith was one of six children and was raised in the Mechanicsville area of Hanover County. She and her husband were married for 65 years. She took care of her husband, Leonard, before his passing in 2011. She was a member of Ashland Church of God in her early years and in later years attended Mechanicsville Christian Center. She loved the Lord and was very active in church. Edith loved flower gardening and in the summer did a lot of canning fruits and vegetables. She loved to cook and no one could make a potato salad like her. She was very thoughtful to others throughout the years helping elderly friends who could not drive, and would pick them up.

She is survived by her son, Harold Bruce; three daughters, Diane Atkins, Judy Naumann and Michelle Bruce; and brother, James B. Smith. She was the grandmother of 12, great grandmother of 15, and great-great grandmother of 3 with one on the way. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren dearly.

The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Ashland Church of God, 407 Myrtle St., Ashland, VA 23005 where a funeral service will begin at 12 pm followed by burial in Signal Hill Memorial Park.
