Monday, March 18, 2019. She was born in Tsingtao, China to missionary parents, Margaret White and. James E. Bear, Jr, on March 2, 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, the Rev. Campbell Davis Wallace, her sister, Margaret Bear Moore and a brother, James E. Bear, III. She is survived by her sister, Jean Bear, her aunt Elizabeth White Willard, her nieces, Margaret Bear Boswell, Mary Bear Shannon, and Elizabeth Moore Kopinski and her nephews, James E. Bear, IV and Robert Rayburn Moore, her sister-in-law, Shirley Bear and a close friend, Miri Hoffman.
She graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1949 and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in 1952. After graduation, she and Cam worked in the mountains of Kentucky in a home mission church. In 1955 they felt called to be missionaries in the Belgian Congo. For 10 years, she worked with the schools in various locations in the Congo. When they retired from the mission field, Cam became the minister of the Ashland Presbyterian Church, and Eleanor worked with him as church secretary. She also was a Sunday School teacher, a choir member and leader of the children’s choir. From 1977 to 1994 she worked in the Randolph-Macon Library as a library assistant. She and Cam moved to Westminster Canterbury in 1996. Always active in church, she was currently a member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church where she had been a Circle Bible Teacher.
Eleanor and her husband were known for their cooking and they entertained many people in their home in Ashland over the years. She loved her years at Westminster Canterbury and she volunteered for many things while she was there, including working in the library,
Ushering and greeting new residents. The family would like to thank the 1st floor staff of Parsons Health Care for their good care of Eleanor.
