

Frank Matthews Sasser, Jr., MD, of Hanover County, VA, was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Brannan Sasser, and survived by daughters Jane Katherine Sasser, Juanita Sasser McHale (Joseph), son Frank Matthews (Matt) Sasser, III (Reneé), daughter Mary Allport Sasser Repcheck (Randy), stepson Harvey Louis Brannan, Jr. (Tabbatha), grandchildren Jennifer Nonnemaker (Joe), William (Billy) Tabor, III, Matthew Sasser, Mitchell Sasser, Anna Repcheck, step-grandchildren Hailey Thomas and Avery Brannan, and great-grandson Nathan Grounds.
Dr. Sasser was born on November 6, 1929, in Durham, NC. He moved to Richmond in 1947, where he attended the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia, graduating in 1955 with his MD degree.
Dr. Sasser practiced medicine in Richmond at Johnston-Willis Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, and at A.H. Robins Pharmaceutical Co.
In 1990, Dr. Sasser returned to family medicine in Hanover County, where he and his wife, Joan Brannan Sasser (RN), established Montpelier Family Practice (1990-2014), where they both were able to serve the community doing what they loved. Dr. Sasser truly loved his patients; the favorite part of his profession was the time he spent getting to know people and working to help improve their health. His life goal was to “help as many people as I can during my remaining years.”
He was an active member of Zion Christian Church, where he served with the Men’s Sunday School Class, the Wednesday night Bible Study, and sang in the Men’s Choir.
A visitation will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 12:30-1:30 pm at Zion Christian Church, 16158 Beaverdam School Rd, followed by a celebration of life from 1:30-2:30 at Zion Christian Church. A graveside service will follow at Corker Family Cemetery, Green Acres Rd, Beaverdam, VA. The family invites everyone to a reception in the Zion Christian Church Activity Center following the graveside service.
