George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fanny Field Wood; his parents, Bessie Wood and William Bryan Wood; and his siblings, Mary Mosby Brett and Larry Lee Wood.
A proud patriot, George honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal First Class. Following his military service, he devoted his life to his family, his faith, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. He was a faithful member of King’s Chapel Presbyterian Church.
George had a lifelong love of gardening, camping, antique cars, carpentry, watercolors, and caring for animals. Whether tending to his garden, building something with his hands, or spending time outdoors, he found fulfillment in hard work and God’s creation. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his cherished daughter, Darlene Wood Hall and her husband, Randy; Terry Wayne Owens; his beloved granddaughters, Christina Owens, Brittany Hall Brookes and her husband, Roger, and Sarah Hall Thorne and her husband, Cody; and 2 great-grandchildren, along with extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his love, wisdom, and unwavering devotion.
George’s legacy of faith, service, compassion, and love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to George's visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home-Ashland, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA, on Wednesday, August 5, from 12:30 PM until the time of the Funeral Service in the chapel at 2 PM. Interment will follow at King's Chapel Cemetery.
