

He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred Bayliss “Pete” Perkins and Olive Ruth Ellison Perkins, and his brother, Winfred Wayne Perkins.
Gerald graduated from Patrick Henry High School was proud to serve his country in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He went on to build a career with VDOT as a highway construction inspector, where he was respected for his dedication and hard work. A man of faith, Gerald was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Montpelier, Virginia. He was also a member of the Ashland Moose Lodge since 1982, where he weekly enjoyed socializing with fellow members and helping those in need.
Gerald is survived by his cousins, Beverly Moody and Jay Moody, and is survived by his lifelong dear friend, Juliet Tisdale, who will cherish his memory.
Those who knew Gerald will remember his love for the Dallas Cowboys, his joy in fishing, gardening, and even the simple pleasure he found in picking up pinecones in the yard. Gerald will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, big heart, and his remarkable ability to engineer and fix anything. He loved spending time with friends and his neighbors, including the Johnsons, the Gravelys, and enjoyed his daily visits to enjoy a laugh with “the boys in the tack room” at Jim Clay’s farm.

A graveside service for Gerald will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2 PM at the Saint Peter's United Methodist Church Cemetery, 15621 St. Peter's Church Rd., Montpelier, VA 23192.
