Gerard A. “Jerry” TerAvest, 88, of Glen Allen passed away suddenly on Friday, September 9, 2016. He was born in Grandville, MI and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Barendina TerAvest; and three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mamie H. TerAvest; and several dear nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Medical Corps and was a retired analyst with the IRS for 35 years in Washington, D.C., where he received many awards. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church, Ashland. He had served as a deacon at his churches in Dearborn, Michigan and Vienna, VA. He loved to travel, making trips to Alaska, Europe, and Russia, etc. The family will receive friends Friday, September 16, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson St., Ashland, VA 23005, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
