Obituary of Ione Dabel Scheuer
SCHEUER, Ione Larson Dabel, age 95 died May 19th, 2018. She was born in Antigo, Wisconsin on September 10th, 1922 to Ferdinand B. and Adele Kiefer Larson, both deceased. She graduated from Stout University, formerly Stout Institute, with a degree in dietetics and married Lyle R. Dabel, also of Antigo, in March 1947. Ione is pre-deceased by her daughter Danene Dabel (1969), her son Darryl Dabel (2010), son-in-law Steven Blair Thompson (2016), and her husbands, Lyle Dabel (1989), and B. Ney Scheuer (2001). Ione lived in both the Fredericksburg and Front Royal areas, and most recently in Ashland. She was active in the Fredericksburg Women’s Club, the American Cancer Society, and Christ Lutheran Church. She loved travel, bridge, the Redskins, parties and dances, gardening, restoring antiques and spent many, many hours sewing beautiful ball gowns and meticulously pleated shirtwaists for her daughters. She is survived by her daughter Lauren Dabel Thompson and two grandsons, Seth Blair Thompson (Beth Herbert) and Jacob Kiefer Jacobs-Thompson (Elisa Jacobs-Thompson). She leaves four great grandchildren, Marlow and Sunny Blair Thompson, and Loren and Felix Jacobs-Thompson. The family thanks the caregivers at Spring Arbor Cottage and the wonderful hospice nurses from Capitol Caring. Ashes will be buried privately in the family’s plot in The Danish Cemetery in Bear Creek, Wisconsin. Since Ione loved a party, she requested one as a celebration of her life. So, her family will certainly grant that request and will receive friends in her honor on Sunday, June 3rd from 4-6 p.m. at Lauren’s home, 110 Howard St., Ashland, VA.
