James Alfred Jarrell

October 15, 1928February 20, 2021

James Alfred Jarrell I passed away at the age of 92, while surrounded by his children, on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Al, as he was known to everyone, was born October 15, 1928 in Little Patrick, Amelia, Virginia, the oldest son of William Hobart and Grace Ruth Handy Jarrell. He attended Amelia High School and went to work for the Jarrell and Glancy Trucking Co., ultimately becoming the general manager and working there until 1972. Afterwards, Al was a salesman for many years and later the manager of the corner convenience store in Ladysmith, Virginia. Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Mable Bruce Jarrell. Al and Dot enjoyed many years living in Lake Caroline in Ruther Glen, Virginia and were members of Ladysmith and Carmel Church Baptist Churches. Al enjoyed golf, tennis, horse racing, gardening, watching sports and playing cards with his family. He was an avid philosopher and enjoyed imparting his wisdom of God, good health, politics, and how to live a full and happy life. He was greatly loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Al Jarrell is survived by his three sons; Jim Jarrell (Joanne), Larry Jarrell (B-Mae), Keith Jarrell (Kay), and daughter; Lori Jarrell Thomas (Cyr); Grandchildren; Jamie, Ana, Lindsey, Amy, Susan, Chris, Jeremiah, Alen, Jason, Adam, Raven, Chandler, and Kaylin; Bonus Grandchildren, Danny, Dave, Joe, Travis, and Chris; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters; Dottie Wyatt, Frankie Eanes, Sandra Corbin (Buddy), Sue Hipp (Kenny); and his brother, Garry Jarrell (Sherry), and numerous nieces and nephews. A small family internment will take place at Signal Hill on Saturday. A later celebration of life will take place at the Jarrell Family Homeplace in Moseley, Virginia on Saturday, April 10, 2021 (tentative date).
