James Scott McAlexander went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2025. Despite some difficult battles he faced, he never complained and kept his head high. He ultimately achieved victory by finding eternal peace in the loving embrace of our Lord.
Scott was born on December 8, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia. Beloved husband of 40 years, Scott, leaves behind his devoted wife, Ginger McCraw McAlexander, and he was the loving son of Calvin and Jane McAlexander of Ashland. Brother Brad McAlexander and sisters Hope and Roy Saettel, and Kimberly and Wellesley Hargrove.
Scott is also survived by his loving sister-in-law Debbie McCraw Manson and brother-in-laws; Eddie and Linda McCraw, Billy and Diane McCraw, Mike and Sharon McCraw and Mark and Shawn McCraw. Scott is survived by many nieces and nephews: Daniel McAlexander, Hannah Hargrove, Bailey Hargrove, Nicole Saettel, Alex and Jessica Manson, Steve and Tiffany Manson, Mitch Manson, and great nieces Aleah and Taya Manson, and great nephews Caleb Manson and Brock Tripp.
Scott colored outside the lines when he was young, and this is how he lived his life, afraid of nothing and trying everything. Scott was an avid outdoorsman, whether fishing in a pond, hunting in the woods, or washing his sparkling clean truck; his love for the outdoors was year-round. Always ready to lend a helping hand or tell a story, Scott never met a stranger. His friendly conversations with friends, family, and neighbors were never dull.
Scott was a true Patriot. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in his young adulthood. After a career in Ironwork, he retired from Hanover Iron and Steel Incorporated in 2023. Scott had a great love for family, faith, and friends. His motto was God, Family, and Country!
Scott’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many nurses and doctors at Memorial Regional Hospital for their compassionate care and concern.
Thank you also for the many thoughts and prayers from family and friends during this difficult time. A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, Virginia 23005, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2:30.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Scott are encouraged to make a memorial donation to Ashland Rescue Squad at 203 Duncan Street, Ashland, VA, 23005
