Joan Hamilton Sager

Joan H. Sager departed this life early Monday morning, June 25, 2018, in Henrico County. Born near Jerome, Virginia in 1932, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Roger "Bob" L. Sager; parents, Braxton and Helen Hamilton; brothers, Jack and Thomas "Tom" Hamilton. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer S. (Fred W. Gentry ) of Glen Allen, Virginia; and son and daughter-in-law, Roger Todd Sager (Lisa R.) of Ashland, Virginia; and her brother, Edmond "Ed" Hamilton. She celebrated four grandchildren, Molly Laine and Ali Gentry, Nathaniel and Leah Sager; great grandson, Henry Laine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joan attended nurses training at Winchester Memorial Hospital. It was during her training she built relationships that she deeply cherished until her passing. Joan utilized her nursing degree working as a Registered Nurse at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, supporting her family while Roger completed pharmacy school. After Roger completed school, the family settled back in the Shenandoah Valley, and soon thereafter, joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Stephens City. Joan held dear the many friendships and relationships of the Lutheran Church Women. In 2013, Joan and Roger moved back to the Richmond area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Joan was considered to be a Christian woman who was gracious, fun-loving, loyal and simplistically dynamic. "Gma" will be truly missed. A Saturday service is planned for noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, 810 Fairfax Street, Stephens City, Va. 22655. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Fairfax St., Stephens City, Va. 22655 or Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE), 300 Arboretum Place, Suite 200, Richmond, Va. 23236, in care of Ms. Judy Frederick.
