It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of John Cox, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, entrepreneur, and man of unwavering faith, who departed this life on August 28, 2025 at the age of 80.
He was a true American success story—self-made, humble, and driven by a deep sense of purpose. He built his life around hard work, integrity, and love. As the founder of a respected and long-standing trucking company, Cox Transportation Services, John poured decades of his life into building something lasting, not just for himself, but for his family and community. His work ethic and commitment turned a dream into a thriving business that supported countless others over the years. His company proudly operated under the slogan “Trucking for America,” a motto that reflected his deep pride in contributing to the nation’s economy and the vital role of American industry.
As a devoted patriot and public servant, John served his community and country as the Republican Delegate for Hanover County’s 55th District from 2010 to 2014. His time in office was marked by dedication, integrity and a deep love for the values that define America. His patriotism wasn’t just spoken—it was lived through his work, his leadership, and his unwavering belief in service to others.
Yet, as much as he was proud of his professional accomplishments, John’s true legacy lies in the deep love and devotion he gave to his family. A loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Dottie Cox, John was her rock, her partner, and her best friend. Together, they raised two daughters, Holly Cox Ferrara and Natalie Cox Waite, who were the light of his life. His role as a father and grandfather brought him immense joy and pride. He was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and gentle guidance—a man who led by example and loved without condition.
He was a loving grandfather to Reagan and Savannah, daughters of Holly and Dustin Ferrara, and to Quinn and Blair, daughters of Natalie and Mike Waite. Whether it was swimming in the pool together, going on tractor rides, feeding his deer, ducks or koi fish, or just simply holding their hands, John’s presence in their lives was a treasured gift.
In the face of immense health challenges, including a debilitating stroke eight years ago and a courageous battle with cancer, John never lost his spirit or his faith. His resilience was an inspiration to all who knew him. Even in illness, he remained a faithful servant—grounded in his belief and living each day with grace and gratitude.
John’s kindness, laughter, and steady presence will be missed beyond words. He was a man who didn’t just live a good life—he built one, gave it away freely to those around him, and left this world far better than he found it.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Cox, his daughters, Holly Cox Ferrara (Dustin) & Natalie Cox Waite (Mike) and his cherished grandchildren, Reagan Ferrara (12), Savannah Ferrara (9), Quinn Waite (6) and Blair Waite (4). He also leaves behind a legacy of friendship, mentorship, and unwavering character that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing.
