John Perry, 89, of Ashland (formerly of Fairmont, WV and Holly Hill, FL) died on Monday, June 24, 2013. He was predeceased by son Robert. He is survived by two sons, John E. (Gwen) of Holly Hill, FL, Richard A. (Linda) of Centerville, OH; and devoted companion, Eloise Piccolo. He was a proud veteran of World War 2, a member of the Army Specialized Training Program at Randolph-Macon College and did his overseas duty with the 14th Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater. After the war he graduated from West Virginia University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. His professional career was spent with Monongahela Power Co. for 39 years, retiring as assistant controller of the company. He was a lifelong Mason and a member of the American Legion. John loved fishing and gardening. He was happiest when casting for trout on a favorite West Virginia stream. A memorial gathering will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. Interment will be private.
