John Bryan Wickham III

WICKHAM, John Bryan "Captain" III, 70, of Montpelier, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018. John was the son of the late Lois Whittaker and John Bryan Wickham Jr.; and was preceded in death by his son, John Bryan Wickham IV. He retired after many years of service as an inspector with VDOT. John was the President of the Ruritan Club, a member of the American Legion and a volunteer firefighter with the Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department, where he was made an honorary lifetime member. For his service in the Vietnam War, John received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal. Left to cherish John's memory are his son, Daniel Clayton Wickham; grandchildren, E.B., Bailey and Coty Wickham; brothers, Robert Clayton Wickham, Allen Bruce Wickham (Vickie), Frederick Lee Wickham (Lenny); nieces and nephews, Bruce, Crystal, Douglas, Woody and Katie. John's family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. 23005. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 17420 Shiloh Church Rd., Montpelier, Va. 23015. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
